for the back porch

I picked up this piece for $2.99 at Goodwill.  I am guessing it once held a mirror over a dresser.  It has a strong wire on the back for hanging. I removed the surf and radio station stickers before taking my before picture:

I painted two coats of chalkboard paint and the used ASCP on the frame.  I loved painting over the two plastic decorations.  I finished with clear and dark wax.  I wrote the words in chalk.  I am looking forward to enjoying it on my back porch very soon!  I would love your feedback on a chair I purchased in the same trip to Goodwill HERE.

to paint or not to paint

I found an adorable chair at my local Goodwill Store today. I was looking for another piece of furniture to paint with chalk paint.  At $12.99, I had no trouble deciding whether to take it home... Now that it is home, I am not sure that I should paint it.  The chair is in great shape.  The seat has definitely been sat on many times.  The spindles could be steadier.  I wonder if a little liquid wood carefully applied at the base of the spindles would help.  Please help me decide...should I go for the painted look OR just apply some wax and enjoy "as is?"

chalk it up

I just finished painting my first piece of furniture with ASCP.  It was fun and easy to complete (once I finally found a table to work with).  I followed the directions that I found in Quick and Easy Paint Transformations by Annie Sloan.  After painting the piece (Country Grey), I used clear wax and then dark wax.  I had intended to do a lot of sanding, but ended up liking it without sanding.  The good news is...if I change my mind, I can always take the table back out to the garage and work on it some more.  For tonight I am very pleased.  So pleased that I had to take these pictures even though it would have been better to work with daylight.  And can you believe that I had the drawer pull sitting around the house?  It was left over from when I was trying to decide which hardware to put on our kitchen cabinets.  I had to buy one of everything I liked, open the packages and try them.  Who knew that any of the runner-ups would find another purpose!

Got one!

So... I stopped by the Goodwill that is conveniently located on my way home from school (work) today.  I stop by there lots of days.  Usually, the only pieces of furniture at my local GW are t.v. stands.... But today was different! Today I saw a sturdy table for $29 calling me.  It had a very shiny top, but I have been told that you can even paint tile or Formica with ASCP, so I'm going to give it a try. The table also had lots of small nicks, so any part of me that felt bad about painting over wood was able to justify it.  So far I have just painted the table.  I hope to sand and wax tomorrow :).  Is it crazy to be this excited about painting a table?!
